Hello everyone,

Here are the band announcements for this week. Happy Homecoming!

Congratulations!

Congratulations on another round of successful performances this past week at the football game and in Mt. Zion. If you didn’t hear, we placed 2nd in Class 2A while winning Best Auxiliary in Class 2A. Nice Job! While trophies are not our main goal, it is nice when our hard work and effort leads to good performances and is recognized. If you know someone who recorded either performance, please share it with us so we can use it for game tape next week!

During the week last week, I mentioned in class how one of the judges was a former professor of mine from ISU. Dr. David Snyder is professor of Music Education at Illinois State University and was the judge for Music Individual (the guy in the red polo on the field). Here is the email he sent me this morning:

“I just wanted to pass along to you, your staff and your students how much I enjoyed your performance last Saturday evening. It was very challenging music and your students played a very musical performance. I’m proud of all the hard work you are doing there!”

That’s so awesome! Way to go!

Thank you to the parents who helped with the pit crew and to Warren and Melissa Smith for providing both water and snacks for everyone in the band!

Homecoming Week

This week is a very big week for the school as it is our Homecoming! A few things to note about this week for the band.

  1. There will NOT be rehearsal on Tuesday, September 27. Everyone has the night off!

  2. We will play at the Tuesday (9/27) morning assembly. Students should check in for attendance with their advisory and then come to the band room before the 8:25 bell. Since I will be with the 8th Grade Band at this time, Drum Majors are in charge.

  3. We will play at the Friday (9/30) afternoon assembly. Students in Chorus will grab their instruments and head to the Gym ASAP once classes are dismissed for the assembly.

Thursday/Friday Band

Due to the change of schedule for the Homecoming assemblies, band will be a little different on Thursday and Friday this week. On Thursday, OHS Band and 6th Grade Band will overlap for 23 minutes. During this time, OHS students will get their instruments and sit amongst the 6th Grade Band members and play along with them. Color Guard will head outside for sectionals. All OHS students are expected to model appropriate behavior as well as proper instrument playing. On Friday, OHS Band will run into 7th Grade Band by 10 minutes. We will do the same thing on Friday that we did on Thursday.

Home Football Game

Our next home football game will Friday, September 30. Call time will be 6:00 PM, lined up in Pre-Game and ready to go. Dress will be full uniform. The temperature will have dropped significantly compared to last weekend. While in the stands, students are expected to keep their jackets on at all times but can remove their hats and gloves. Also, the last football game, we saw a lot of people with cell phones. All cell phones that are out will be confiscated until the end of the game.

QotW

“To amuse oneself in order that one may exert oneself… seems right; for amusement is a sort of relaxation, and we need relaxation because we cannot work continuously.” – Aristotle

This week we are focused on refilling our tanks so we can have a fantastic finish to our season. Enjoy all of the homecoming festivities.

Upcoming Schedule

As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email or call.
