Meet the musical directors of Olympia CUSD16.

 

Mrs. Debbie Aurelius-Muir

Ms. Aurelius-Muir holds two Bachelor’s Degrees and one Master Degree from the University of Illinois.  She has a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance and a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education with a double major in voice and piano. Her graduate degree is in Music Education.  She has taught music in several public schools: General Music K-8 and Chorus  in   Fisher, Illinois; Chorus and General Music at Urbana Middle School; Performing Arts, General Music, and Integrated Arts at Franklin Magnet Middle School; and General Music and Chorus at Bloomington Junior High School.   In the private schools, Mrs. A.M. taught General Music and Chorus at Judah Christian School.   Before Mrs. Aurelius-Muir began working outside the home, she maintained a music studio teaching piano and voice for 10 years.  In addition to working in public schools, private schools, and operating her own studio, Mrs.Aurelius-Muir has also worked in some area churches.  She has directed Choirs or has been the service accompanist at Windsor Road Christian Church, First United Methodist Church of Urbana, and Park United Methodist Church of Bloomington. 

 

Ms. Aurelius-Muir is very happy to include teaching here at Olympia. She is the choral instructor  for grades 7 – 12 at Olympia High School and Middle School, and directs the OHS Chamber Choir and the OHS Jazz Ensemble ( Route 66).

Mr. Kyle Brubaker

Kyle Brubaker was born and raised in Central Illinois. Coming from a musical family, he attended Illinois State University where he received his degree in Music Education with a concentration in Instrumental Music. While at ISU, Mr. Brubaker studied saxophone privately with Mr. James Boitos. As a member of the ISU Jazz Bands, he had the opportunity to meet and perform with great guest artists like Denis DeBlasio, Benny Golson, Bobby Shew, and Byron Stripling.

Since graduating from ISU, Mr. Brubaker taught for two years in the Peoria Public School District and worked with their auditioned extracurricular jazz band, The Peoria Jazz Allstars. He has also played professionally with many local groups like the Heartland Jazz Orchestra, Illinois Central Jazz Train, First United Methodist Jazz Night House Band, as well as subbed in for various groups like Central Illinois Jazz Orchestra and John Cooper's Jazz Orchestra. 

Mr. Brubaker is currently in his 7th year as the director of bands at Olympia Middle/High School where he teaches 6th Grade Beginning Band, 7th Grade Intermediate Band, 8th Grade Advanced Band, OHS Marching Spartans, OHS Concert Band, OHS Pep Band, OHS Jazz Band, OHS Chamber and Madrigal Ensembles, and OHS Musical Pit Orchestra.
