Hello everyone,

Here are your pre-camp announcements.

Stanford Parade

Nice job last Saturday at the Stanford Parade. It was extremely warm but we handled it well.

Fitness Homework

No fitness homework for the next two weeks because of band camp.

Band Camp Information

Band Camp is next week! There is a lot of information to go over with everyone. Instead of putting it all here, we have created a Google Drive Folder. You can find a Band Camp Introduction Letter, schedule for both weeks, the procedures for dinner, and a flyer for our Friends and Family Potluck/Preview. The folder can be accessed by clicking here. Please be sure to read through everything!

Weather

Looking at the weather forecast, some have expressed concerns. Fortunately, we have a lot of experience with extreme weather conditions during band camp. Undoubtedly, whenever we schedule band camp, those are guaranteed to be the hottest days of the year. To give everyone peace of mind, we do have a plan in place. It starts with the schedule limiting the time spent outside during the hottest portion of the day. Furthermore, we will move our most strenuous activities (like conditioning and basics training) inside to a gym on extremely hot days. Finally, whether we are inside or outside, we do offer numerous water breaks. The staff checks to make sure everyone is drinking water during breaks. We also have a giant water cooler available for students to refill their water bottles.

There are things everyone can do on their own. The biggest thing students can do to prevent heat related illness is to make sure they drink lots of water during the day. It is not only important to drink water during the day but it’s just as important to drink a lot of water at night while at home. It’s also recommended that for every three hours spent outside during the day, students drink 12 ounces of a salt drink (Gatorade or Powerade). While we want to replenish the water that we lose through sweat, drinks like Gatorade help replenish the minerals we lose as well. This is an important step when staying hydrated.

Parent Help – URGENT

We need someone to donate food for the staff meal on Thursday, July 28. You can sign up by clicking here.

DCI World Championships Finals Watch Party

We are hosting a watch party for the 2016 DCI World Championships Finals on Saturday, August 13. The action starts at 5:00 PM. Plan on arriving around 4:45 PM. It should wrap up before 10:00 PM. Drum and Bugle Corps is considered the major league of the marching/pageantry arts. The World Championships will feature the best drum corps in the nation. This is marching band at its finest. This event is completely voluntary.

Calendar Addition

Please add the following to your calendars: Spartan Night – Friday, August 19. More information and details about this event will be released closer to the date.
