Hello everyone,

Marching band season has begun! Here are the announcements for this week.

Rookie Camp

Rookie Camp has started! Here are recommended tips for adapting to the heat/physical stress of rehearsals:

  1. Drink lots of water the night before as well as bring water to rehearsal. What you do the day leading to a rehearsal can affect how your body reacts to the heat during rehearsal.

  2. Wear a hat.

  3. Wear sunscreen.

  4. Wear weather appropriate clothes!

  5. Wear athletic shoes that have support and wear socks.

  6. Drink more water!!

Veterans’ Rehearsal

Our first rehearsal for all returning members will be Tuesday, June 21 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Returning students who are not attending Rookie Camp are expected to be there. *Please note the time difference from Thursday’s rehearsal.*

First Full Rehearsal

Our first full rehearsal for everyone will be Thursday, June 23 from 6:00 PM until 8:30 PM. All students should be able to play through the music. *Please note the time difference from Tuesday’s rehearsal.*

Commitment Form/Registration

Some have either completed only their commitment form or their registration. Please turn in signed commitment forms at the first rehearsal your student attends. Also, please be sure to register to your student by filling out this form: http://goo.gl/forms/Lx1jd1MrTkfwz9ev2. *The registration is important as this is how we keep track of emergency contacts during the summer.* If you are unsure if your student is officially registered, please email me.

Marching Band Fee

The marching band fee is $125 and due at the rehearsal on June 23. These fee is used to not only for our band camp staff but also our drill for the show as well as equipment needs throughout the year. If your student is on free/reduced lunch or you need assistance with the fee, please email me to let me know. There are opportunities for families that need assistance.

Marching Band Music

All of the music for marching band can be found here: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B6boiyMOjLJ7fjJOblh3NVhMM1dFdldQOXJLSzNOSGNiQktYb1ZHUVRhZ25MSktFd3E3amM&usp=sharing. Students should expect to be able to play through the music on Thursday, June 23. Part assignments and cuts to the show music are available here as well. The parade tune, “God Bless America”, should be memorized by Tuesday, June 28. Hard copies of this music will be available at Rookie Camp and the veterans rehearsal.

Parent Help

We need parent help! Find out how you can help by visiting here: http://kylebrubaker.wix.com/olympia-music#!parent-help/cjqq. Each that you can click on as a link will take you to a sign up for that job.

Marching Band Text Alerts

To help keep you up-to-date about call times, band itineraries, and critical last minute updates, we've signed up for Remind. Remind is a free service that lets directors send one-way messages via SMS, push notifications or email to everyone involved with the band including students and parents. Remind will keep phone numbers private, while making it a lot easier to stay in touch about the band. Signing up for my messages on Remind is a quick and easy process:

  • You can text 81010 with the message @cd08

  • You can visit this link: www.remind.com/join/cd08 and enter your information there.

  • You can visit www.remind.com and sign up as a student or a parent.

Hopefully my Remind messages will be an easier way for us to keep in touch about the class. With this service, you will be able to receive urgent updates, arrival/departure times, change of plan information, and much more via text messages. Keep this in mind about the service when you are signing up:

  • There are no open replies to teacher messages on Remind.

  • All messages are recorded in case we need to reference them in the future.

  • Your personal contact information is never seen by me or by the school.

  • Messages from my class will be sent straight to your phone or email account.

  • If I need to send specific information to a select few people in the class, I can message groups of 3+ people.

Thanks for signing up for my class on Remind! If you have any questions about the service, please feel free to contact me.
