Hello everyone,
Here are this week’s announcements.
Calendar Correction
It has been brought to my attention that another one of our calendar details was incorrectly placed on a very old version of the band manual. I have checked the syllabus that went out at the beginning of the school year. This appears to be the last correction.
On Saturday, September 19, we will be going to the Morton High School Invitational and not Pontiac High School. I apologize for the confusion and error and will work to rectify this so it doesn’t happen again in the future.
Fall Fundraiser
Our fall fundraiser with the Chip Shoppe will begin this week. All orders and money are due Tuesday, September 15th. We do accept donations in lieu of buying anything from the catalog. We encourage students to sell as much as they can (at least 10 items). This money is used to help pay for incidental purchases during the course of the school year like contest entries, instrument repairs/purchases, music, reeds, etc.
Show Shirts
Order forms for this year’s show shirt, as well as a general Marching Spartans shirt, are available in the band room. Order forms and money for both are due by Friday, September 4.
First Football Game
Our first football game is this Friday. As tradition, the first football game will feature a short performance at the district tailgate picnic prior to the start of the game. The itinerary for the evening is below. Due to the heat, dress will be summer uniform.
5:30 Warm Up (OHS Main Entrance)
5:50 Depart in parade block for tailgate
6:00 Perform at tailgate (Parade tune, school song, part of show?)
6:10 Dismissed until Pre-game lineup
6:40 Line up for pre-game on practice field/Eyes with pride
6:52 Pre-game begins
7:00 Kick-off
8:00ish Halftime Performance
9:00-9:30 Game finishes
Labor Day Parade
Our next parade will be Monday, September 7 in Delavan, IL. Since this parade is out of our district, we are asking that all students ride the bus to and from the parade. Dress will be summer uniforms. Call time is 9:00 AM and should return to OHS around 11:45 AM. If you are signing your student out at the end of the parade, we finish the parade next to the park near the intersection of 1st and Cedar. We will wait 30 minutes following the band’s portion of the parade (not the end of the parade) before heading back to Olympia.
Washington Itinerary
By clicking here, you will find the itinerary for the Marching Panthers Invitational at Washington High School. Please note that that students should have LONG black socks (not ones that cut off at the ankle). Gloves will be handed out during lunch. Wind players should bring $3 for the purchase of the gloves.
QotW
“Music, uniquely among the arts, is both completely abstract and profoundly emotional. It has no power to represent anything particular or external, but it has a unique power to express inner states or feelings. Music can pierce the heart directly; it needs no mediation.” – Oliver Sacks
As always, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to email or call.
Thank you,
