Hello,

I hope you enjoyed your week off from band. Here are the updates for this week. I apologize in advance for the length of thisupdate.

Congratulations!!!

Congratulations on a very successful band camp and friends/family preview performance! Band camp is the hardest part of the season and we made it through it. There are a lot of good things happening. Keep up the hard work!

Thank You!

I wanted to take time out to thank a handful of people for helping out the past couple of weeks. Thank you to Marcia Schopp for organizing staff meals and the Thursday pizza party. Thank you to all of the families that provided food for the staff. Thank you to Allison Spracklen to taking charge of the uniform process and Linda Ford for helping with uniform fittings. Thank you to Michael Rodman for your help organizing the Friends and Family Potluck. Finally, thank you to each one of you for encouraging your students to keep working hard and for help making sure that they make it to the school each day. We could not have had a successful camp and cannot have a successful season without your help.

Band Room

The band room has been cleaned for the school year. That means things may have been moved around. Give yourself plenty of time before rehearsal to locate everything that you need. Since it has been clean we will reinstate the no food in the band room rule. All food must be eaten on a tiled surface and should not be left in the band/guard room.

Upcoming Rehearsals

We have been asked to use the stadium only one night a week. We have worked out the following schedule for rehearsal spaces. We will be in the stadium Tuesday, August 4 and Tuesday, August 11. We will be on the Practice Field/Parking Lot on Thursday August 6 and Thursday, August 13. All four rehearsals will begin at 6:00 PM and finish at 8:30 PM. Please note that rehearsals will now go a half hour longer than they did before band camp.

Game Tape

We will start game tape this Tuesday at 5:40 PM. This is where we watch video of past performances/run-throughs before every Tuesday rehearsal for the rest of the season. The reasoning for this is simple: how can we get better if we don’t watch the recording of ourselves? The goal is for you to take the information about what is good and what needs work to focus your individual practicing.

Activity Cards

We will be checking student activity cards at the end of rehearsal on Thursday, August 13. As stated at the marching band introductory meeting and the band manual, students are required to have an activity card to participate in band. All paperwork and information is handled through the activities office. More information about the paperwork can be found by clicking here. Students who do NOT have an activity card by the start of the school year will not be allowed to perform with the group until they have received one.

When checking activity cards, we will be writing down the date and activity card # to verify with the activities office. The office will be open from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM Monday through Friday.

Calendar Changes

We have two changes to our calendar.

  • There will not be rehearsal on Tuesday, August 18 due to OMHS Open House.

  • We have a performance for Spartan Night on Friday, August 21. More information to come on this event.

Waynesville Parade

Our next performance is the Waynesville Parade on Saturday, August 15. Call time for students riding the bus will be 1:30 PM to load the trailer. We depart from the school at 1:45 PM. If you’re meeting us at the parade, we will meet by the post office at 2:15 PM. The parade will step off at 3:00 PM. We should be finished at the post office around 3:30 PM. We depart Waynesville at 3:45 PM and should be back to school around 4:15 PM.

Danvers Days Parade

The Danvers Days Parade will be Sunday, August 16. Call time for students riding the bus will be 12:30 PM to load the trailer. We depart from the school at 12:45 PM. If you’re meeting us at the parade, we will meet by the elevators at 1:15 PM. We will be performing the National Anthem for this parade. The parade will step off at 2:00 PM and we should finish at the elevators at 2:30 PM. We depart Danvers at 2:45 PM and should be back to school around 3:00 PM.

National Anthem

Music for the National Anthem will be handed out to students at rehearsal this week. It is also available through this Google Drive folder. The music will be loaded this afternoon. It should be learned and memorized for our rehearsal on Tuesday, August 11.

Coordinate Sheets

Coordinate sheets, or sheets that have each students coordinate for every set without the picture, will be handed out to students at rehearsal this week. They are also available through this Google Drive folder. When we clean and fix drill, these are an easier way for students to find their spots quickly and accurately.

Conditioning Homework

The homework for this week’s conditioning will be:

Tuesday: Brisk 5 minute warmup walk, Jog 5 minutes, Walk 3 minutes, Jog 8 minutes, Walk 3 minutes, Jog 5 minutes, Brisk 5 minute cool down walk

Thursday: Brisk 5 minute warmup walk, Jog 10 minutes, Walk 3 minutes, Jog 10 minutes, Brisk 5 minute cool down walk
