Hello everyone,

Here are your announcements for this week.

Band Polo Shirts

Our band polo shirts have arrived for all of our new students. Shirt sizes were gathered from the online registration. Polos cost $27.50 and your student will receive theirs when we receive payment. We will start handing them out after tomorrow night’s rehearsal.

Binders

Students should bring a three ring binder (at least 1 inch) to rehearsal on Thursday, July 2. We will be handing out the drill for the show, learning how to read drill, and putting the first set of the show on the field. Some students prefer to have plastic inserts to help protect their drill in case of bad weather. Also, students are encouraged to bring some form of string/yarn that they can attach to their binder so they can wear it while on the field.

Hopedale 4th of July Parade

Our first performance of the year is this Saturday in Hopedale for the 4th of July Parade. Students should wear their band polos and khaki shorts or capris. Students who are riding the bus have a call time of 8:45 AM to load the trailer at school. We will leave school at 9:00 AM. Students meeting us at the parade should meet us at the water tower in Hopedale at 9:15 AM. The parade will begin at 10:00 AM and we should be finished around 10:30 AM at the elementary school/park by the car show. We should arrive back to OHS around 11:00 AM. See below for our bus policy for all summer parades/performances.

Bus Policy

Students are expected to ride the bus to and from parade performances with the following exceptions: The parade is in their hometown. The student’s house is closer to the parade town than the school. A parent notifies the director at least 48 hours in advance that they will be dropping off and picking up their student at the parade.

Any student who rides the bus to the performance is to ride it back to school. However, these students may be signed out by a parent/guardian after the band has completed their performance. To help ensure the band’s schedule remains on time and we arrive back at school at the time announced in the weekly email, we ask that you sign your student out within 15 minutes of the band finishing their portion of the parade. Please note that this means the band’s performance and not the entire parade itself. After the 15 minutes and the trailer is loaded, we will have everyone get back on the bus so we can head back to school.

Students who do not ride the bus are not expected to be signed out. It is expected that they find their parents/cars on their own after the parade.

Conditioning and Strength Building

With planned and unplanned absences for our summer rehearsals, it would be wise that students are caught up in the conditioning and core strengthening part of our rehearsals by completing these exercises at home when they miss rehearsal. We will constantly be moving forward with our conditioning/core strengthening plan at every rehearsal. That is why I will start including the full conditioning/strengthening plan for each week instead of just the homework.

Here are the plans for this week:
